Mid-Term Meeting in the Cosmos

It is difficult to believe that the A4SEE project is already 2 years old. The, originally three-year, project was extended to four due to the effects of the global pandemic that struck in early 2020. That means that we’re halfway through! However, we still have many things to do, with two more Special Topics courses, two more Innovation Marketplaces and two more International Collaboration Experiences (I.C.E.) to go!

As we’re at the half-way point, we ran a ‘mid-term event’ to review everything we’ve done over the past 2 years, but also, what is yet to come.

We had planned to meet in person at Vaudé’s headquarters close to Lake Constance. Unfortunately, due to the new threat of Covid’s Omicron strain, it was decided to run the event virtually instead. By this time, we were very used to online meeting software such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. We were very keen to offer a different experience if at all possible.

After some searching we found the platform cosmos video. It has all the features of most video conferencing software but allows you to move freely around a virtual space, entering into conversations freely and dynamically.

This really helped us to run events such as a student exhibition (in which participants from our recent innovation marketplace demonstrated their solutions) and also for small and large conversations to take place easily between different groups of people.

A different way of meeting online

What’s to come

We used a lot of the meeting to discuss what activities are yet to come, including this year’s I.C.E. and future Innovation Marketplace’s

I.C.E. Summer 2022

The next Industry Collaboration Experience will take place in Sheffield, July 18th to 22nd. We have five separate topics, contributed by Catapult, Labosport, Magura, Vaudé and Motek. Due to take place at the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre on Sheffield’s Olympic Legacy Park there are a large number of different laboratories and sports spaces nearby that students will be able to take advantage of.

Future Innovation Marketplaces

Both Magura and Labosport offered fantastic topics for future Innovation marketplaces. We recognised that it isn’t always easy for companies to host academics and students for events such as these, so future events will be held in collaboration with an academic partner. Both TU Delft and Technikum Wien offered their spaces for future events.

Magura’s challenge involves the integration of ‘smart’ technology in their products. I.e. Some element of responsiveness to changing conditions.

Labosport want to better understand how to align the measurements they make with the perception of players — what innovative solutions exist?

Watch this space as more details about these events are released in the future.
