Aalborg University

Type: Academia

Country: Denmark

Aalborg University (AAU) and more specifically researchers from the Sport Sciences – Performance and Technology group focus on both basic and applied research topics concerning human movement in general. We develop and apply new research methods for improving performance and preventing injuries in sports. Our research results improved methods assessing performance and new innovative technological developments.

The scientific employees are Professor (3), Adjunct Professor (2), Associate Professor (7), Assistant Professor (1), PhD Students (13) and Teaching Assistant Professor (1).

The research group has initiated numerous scientific cooperation with companies and organizations including e.g. Adidas, Fusion, Salomon, Spraino and Team Danmark.

Of extreme relevance, AAU is the only Danish university offering a Master of Science in Sports Technology.

Sports Engineering Competences

We are specialists in sport engineering, physiology, physiotherapy, sport sciences, biomechanics and ergonomics. The research activities are conducted in one of the eight following laboratory: Lab for Ergonomics and Work-related Disorders, Lab for Motor Behaviour and Performance, Lab for Exercise Physiology, Lab for Movement Dynamics and Sport Technology, Lab for Neuromechanics and Exercise, Lab for Human Movement, Lab for Strength Training, and Lab for Musculoskeletal Modelling.

These laboratories are equipped with innovative technology: Ergometry, pulmonary gas exchange, force and power recordings, high-density EMG recordings, brain activity recordings, accelerometry, eye movement recordings, kinematics as well as scanning and Imaging techniques.

Fellowship Opportunities

  • Vast possibilities of measurement methods

  • Laboratory and field studies

  • Embedded opportunities for collaborating with classical engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical)

  • Access to both recreational and elite athletes

  • Outstanding possibilities of internship for AAU students for 1 or 2 semester outside Denmark in academia or industry
